RFEI# 1.11.24 - Upgrades to Existing Seating in Work Locomotives
Description:

SCOPE

Prior to a formal solicitation to procure, the LIRR is seeking a Request for Information from qualified manufacturers and suppliers in providing information to the LIRR to incorporate the latest design in ergonomic seating options to retrofit into existing work engines. Specifically:

  • Upgrade to the existing seating in a total of 16 General Motors Models SW1001 (LIRR E-10) & MP15AC (LIRR E-15) Work engines
  • Both work engine locomotives have two (2) seats in the cab, installed along a side wall track resulting in total minimum requirement of 32 seats.
  • The existing seat is a small circle with a low back, similar to that of a drum throne and we would like to replace it with a more ergonomic design compact enough to retrofit into the existing cab.
  • The LIRR is interested in an ergonomic seat that is adjustable, has folding arms, padding/insulation to reduce vibration, a back support and foldable footrest.
  • The seats offered shall meet any applicable 49 CFR Part 229, AAR and APTA requirements.
  • The Manufacturer or vendor shall have replacement parts available and must be subject to a warrantee.

Along with the Request for Information, LIRR is interested in recommendations for alternate approaches, while still providing the desired function with benefits of safety, cost savings, reliability on materials and equipment compatibility.

Firms who express an interest must address all points above in their proposal and may be invited to participate in meetings to discuss the matters addressed in this RFEI and may be requested to provide additional information.
