The objectives of this endeavor are to conduct an annual survey of all known milfoil locations in Schroon Lake, and to effectively remove as much of the AIS plant population as possible given the funding available.

The program’s goals are to clear the scattered to moderate density locations of AIS [specifically Eurasian Watermilfoil (“EWM”) and Curly-leaf Pondweed (“CLP”) presently] and a reduction in the numbers and density of large AIS beds each season. Dense bed locations provide both a seed bank and plant fragments, which allows for recolonization of previous sites and the spread of the AIS to new sites.

The project will be under the management of the Department and subject to the requirements of New York State permits and authorizations that the Department and/or the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District (the “District”) hold.
