NSLS-II is a synchrotron light source with a highly optimized 3GeV electron storage ring, full-energy injector, experimental beamlines and optics, and appropriate support equipment. The storage ring contains two superconducting (SC) radio frequency (RF) sections that replace the energy lost by the electrons during their circulation. These two SC RF sections require cooling by liquid helium (LHe) supplied from an independent cryogenic system, which consists of a helium refrigerator/liquefier (Cold Box), storage Dewar, and distribution to the SC RF sections.

The cryogenic system is being upgraded to include a 2nd Cold Box and a 2nd Dewar. This new equipment will require new cryogenic transfer lines to interconnect with the existing plant.
