NY HARBOR at CAVEN POINT MARINE TERMINAL HYBRID VESSEL CHARGING SYSTEM
The equipment provided in this solicitation will be provided by the Government as Government
Furnished Equipment (GFE) to be installed under a separate construction contract to form part of
the new NY Harbor at Caven Point Marine Terminal Hybrid Vessel Charging System shore power station
at the Caven Point Marine Terminal. This new shore power charging station will provide 480VAC
3-phase power to the new diesel-electric battery hybrid DCV DRIFTMASTER II.
The power requirements for the new DCV DRIFTMASTER II while connected to shore power will be 480VAC
3-phase power delivered at 550A through three (3) parallel three conductor plus ground shore power
cables. These power requirements will provide sufficient power to recharge the ESS from a fully
discharged state to fully charged in 12 hours. The power requirements for the vessel while
connected to hotel power will be 480VAC 3-phase power delivered at 150A through one (1) three
conductor plus ground shore power cable to provide sufficient power to the vessel’s hotel loads in
a winter loading condition.
The Caven Point Marine Terminal is located within the New York Harbor at the entrance of the
Verrazano Narrows. The facility withstands hurricane force winds, frequent 40 knot winds, dust,
debris, foreign material, storm surges, and standing water. The facility is home port to three
large crane boat debris collection vessels, three patrol craft and multiple trailered survey and
patrol boats.
